Snow!

Twenty inches of glorious snow! Hot chocolate, junk food, hiking in snow pants to Sunday morning waffles at the home of good friends, Sunday dinner at the home of still more good friends. Musical children working their way through our houses - I fed one of hers, she fed one of mine, when should we arrange an exchange? School cancelled ALL WEEK (HELP!). Mom is giddy one minute, crazy with cabin fever the next. Wrestling brothers and a restless sister who is inexplicably drawn to the Star Wars wrapping paper on cousin Logan's gift under the tree, as well as the knives in the dishwasher. Gingerbread cookies at home, ornament crafts at Will's. And Chase and Cole have had at least a dozen near-death experiences with that plastic sled and some ridiculously high and unstable snow drifts. Ah, to be a kid again.

steady meditative slicing of tomatoes while two children nap - dogwood blooms - sun blasting through storm clouds - the way usborne books feel in my hands - shirtless chase reading to me as i clean up breakfast dishes -
